Reclaiming The Blade.

As some of you know, I have a small obsession for the Western Martial Arts, *Martial arts coming from Western and Eastern Europe.
A year or so ago I came across a trailer for a documentary called “Reclaiming The Blade.” This Documentary was describing how when the words Martial Arts are spoken, People almost immediately think, “Asia, Karate, Bruce Lee” etc. The idea of Western Martial arts as a simple hack and slash barbarous seemed to be the norm. Well this documentary was to expose that this is not the case.
I waited on the edge of my seat to see this movie in theaters…but alas it was not to be.
I looked for it on store shelves but alas it never showed up.
Last night I was perusing Netflix Streaming video..and like the grail shining in the darkness there it was, I was overjoyed I was breathless got to admit I was a little excited.
I hit play and sat back, 1 hour seventeen minutes later, I was giggly with excitement. For the last few years off and on I have been running a Western Martial Arts class. A few weeks ago upset with the lack of commitment from some of the students, and my own personal issues I had to take a step back. This movie came by at the right time, to inspire me.
And you might think it’s weird or funny, but that is how I geek out. I love computers, and I love movies and comics etc. but my true Geekiness is Swords, Knives, and basically medieval history.

Talk about funny coincidences… we watched the very same movie on Netflixs on Sunday and I thought of you, knowing you’d be geeked in seeing it. Small planet.
